(the problem with that is that it corrupts the data, since the column types are set to "auto" on a new document, and they guess incorrectly).īut taking the resulting tab-delimited file and copying/pasting into the already existing sheet works fine. Only in double quotes, copying and pasting the resulting fileĭid work! It also worked via your method of dragging the resulting file into the Numbers icon on the Dock. But when I put the "Buyer's Address" field It worked! What I had done before was, when testing out the double quote option, was put each field in double quotes. Thanks again for the idea.hopefully this will result in something usable, though it would be nice to simply have Numbers honor the hard returns in an imported field as soft returns. Would the pasting line up for all the rows in that column that lacked data? While doing that is easy, I am not sure how I can take the resulting file and paste it into Numbers. I could then put the exported Buyer's Address text file into TextMate/vi/etc and replace all linefeeds with "qqq". Only that column of data after importing the rest into Numbers. The one idea that I had, but I am not able to figure out how exactly to do this, would be to import I could do so manually, but I am importing that data into the program from yet another source! So that could get tedious very quickly. The program that generates that data does not allow me to easily edit the address field with a special text string. Thanks for the tip! I thought of that already, but the problem is that the original file is several thousand lines long and contains all the data you see in the sample row.
